Based 5,000 years ago, the venture is a two-part live-action extravaganza based on the ageless Indian mythological epic, a press release states.

The inaugural part of Ramayana is set to open globally on IMAX for Diwali 2026, and the final chapter will follow in 2027, during Diwali 2027.

The cast features a lineup of stars: Ranbir Kapoor plays the part of Lord Rama, Yash  plays the part of Ravana, and Sai Pallavi plays the part of Goddess Sita. Sunny Deol plays Lord Hanuman, and Ravie Dubey plays the part of Lord Lakshman.

The movie also has an impressive crew of globally renowned artists. The soundtrack is being composed with a history-making tie-up between Oscar-winning artist Hans Zimmer and India's own music guru A R Rahman.

On the action side, the sequences are being choreographed by legendary Hollywood stunt professionals Terry Notary and Guy Norris. In the meantime, the ambitious visual landscape of the movie is being brought to life by industry-leading production designers—Ravi Bansal, who has worked on Dune: Part Two, and Ramsey Avery, whose work includes Captain America.

As part of its worldwide unveiling—aptly named "Ramayana: The Introduction"—simultaneous fan screenings took place in nine Indian cities, coupled with a dramatic billboard takeover in New York's Times Square, priming the pump for what is to be one of Indian cinema's biggest releases.
